Course Overview
The Manual Handling Course is compliant with the All Wales NHS Manual Handling Passport Scheme is designed to ensure consistency within NHS Trusts in Wales, thus allowing staff to transfer their skills when moving from Trust to Trust.
Participation in the Manual Handling Passport Scheme is a path to ensuring that organisations also meet training and advisory provision as set out in the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations, 1999.
The course can be delivered at your place of work or at our North Wales Training Centre.

Aim Of This Course?
The aim of the course is to reduce the risk of musculo-skeletal injuries caused by poor manual handling in the workplace and hence reduce sickness absence
Who Is this Qualification For?
This course is suitable for anyone who has never held the All Wales Manual Handling Passport and is involved in the manual handling of people i.e. care staff, nursing, family etc.
What Will I Study?
The training programme is broken down into modular sections to allow for flexibility in its delivery. The modules cover the following topics:

❖ Module B – Inanimate Load Handling
❖ Module C – Sitting, standing, walking
❖ Module D – Bed mobility
❖ Module E – Lateral Transfers
❖ Module F – Hoisting
How Long Will It Take?
This course is conducted over 2 Full Days
What Are The Legal Requirements?
Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, Part 1, Section 2(2)c
requires employers to provide:

Supervision
Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
Regulation 13(2) and (3) requires employers to provide health and
safety training:
On recruitment
When risks change
To be repeated periodically as appropriate
To take place during working hours
Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (as amended 2002),
Regulation 4(1)(b)(i), (ii) (iii) and Regulation 5 do not specify training
but this is implicit in some of its requirements. Guidance on these
Regulations has been updated by the Health & Safety Executive,
(2004).
Employees should be given information on:
- Task, individual capability, load, environment and other
factors
- Recognition of risk
- Safe working systems
- Use of equipment
How Long Is The Training Valid?
The All Wales Manual Handling Passport is valid for 1 year. Holders are then required to undergo an Annual Refresher, which is conducted over 1 Full Day.

Course Overview
The Manual Handling Refresher Course is designed in accordance with the All Wales Passport Scheme, and ensures that participants maintain their skills and practices in the workplace. This one-day course largely covers the syllabus of the prerequisite manual handling course but also introduces updated skills and changes to best practice.
